Nomad

As a Belgian citizen, I had to come to terms with the colonialist rape of the Congo in the 19th century and the genocide of several millions of its people so aptly described by Adam Hochschild in his well-documented book entitled King Leopold's Ghost. However, as a specialist of the links between art and peace always looking for thera-pies and glimpses of hope, reading Nomad is a refreshing experience. A new generation of young Congolese artists is standing up to show the strength of human creativity. This wonderful collection of poems enables the reader to identify with the writer, using a subtle mixture of concrete and abstract descriptions.

White Eldorado, Black Fever

This is a story about a journey, where along the way, the protagonists learn about themselves and each other, and about the world at large. The book is told with a language reminiscent of the fable, and some fables are woven into the story. The book can be nicely read as a story of two young boys who go out into the world to seek happiness and who do not find what they had expected, which is a well-known theme. However, the story is more about today's Congo politics, social situation and about the conflict mineral. Coltan is an important component of mobile phones and PlayStations, and so this is a story that concerns us all, whether we want it or not. Probably we do not want it; because the reality described in the book is an unpleasant reality we help to keep up through our consumption”.

Black Emeralds

These poems reveal remarkable skill and simplicity of style. Here we find a graceful and harmonious movement of language. The spontaneous and profound emotions are nowhere more exquisitely revealed than in these poems which are, in many respects, quite unique.

Amani

The poems reveal very delicate perceptions. After reading these poems, the striking phrases reverberate within us. The style of the poems is simple, but is not monotonous.

Hvite Eldorado, svarte byrde

In this remarkable novel, Boneza delivers a rare feat: he informs without judgement and enlightens without preaching. In these turbulent times for Africa where neo-colonisation is in full swing and mostly absent from public debate, Boneza enables readers of all backgrounds to understand without apportioning blame.
